IBEW 305 and CIC NECA collaborated to host successful career fairs

Central Indiana NECA recently hosted two career fairs in Fort Wayne in collaboration with our local contractors, unions and industry partners to continue building the skilled electrical contracting workforce in our area. Along with connecting job seekers to opportunities in the electrical contracting field, these successful events also help highlight the value of the partnership between NECA and IBEW, and their shared commitment to driving our industry forward.

In Fort Wayne, NECA and IBEW Local 305 hosted targeted career fairs designed to connect licensed electricians with signatory contractors in the region. Participating contractors included Shambaugh & Son, LP, Hi-Tech Electric, and Fairchild Communication Company. The event was made possible in part through funding from an NLMCC grant, which helped to cover event costs.

In the weeks leading up to the event, IBEW Local 305 conducted extensive outreach – mailing flyers to Allen County license holders, visiting known electricians in the area and engaging non-union worksites to share information about the opportunities available with union contractors. At the career fair, representatives from NECA, the IBEW, and both organizations’ national offices were available to discuss wages, benefits, training opportunities and career pathways within the industry. The initial fair resulted in a 90% placement rate, demonstrating the strong interest and alignment in job seekers and employers in the industry. Results from the second event are still being collected.

The event also displayed the cooperative relationship between labor and management that sets the NECA-IBEW model apart. Contractors and labor continue to work together to address workforce needs, expand career opportunities and ensure our industry continues to deliver the highest level of professionalism and craftsmanship. By collaborating on initiatives like this career fair, both organizations help maintain a reliable pipeline of skilled electricians ready to support our contractors and the communities they serve. Special thanks go to Business Manager Kip Howard and the Local 305 team for his leadership in organizing the event.
